Jen Cattermole

Jen recently completed her PhD entitled "Sere ni cumu: a localised music tradition on Taveuni, Fiji" under the supervision of Phil Hayward and Denis Crowdy at Macquarie University, Sydney. At present, she is working on an ARC Discovery project researching the Melanesian music industry in a research assistant capacity. As part of this project, she is working on the creation of a digital music archive for Oceanic music (under Denis Crowdy's leadership), as well as co-writing a book chapter on the Fijian music industry with Phil Hayward. Her MA research focussed on the performance of roots reggae in Aotearoa/New Zealand. Broadly speaking, she is interested in issues of place and identity in relation to Oceanic music.
